Nelson Mandela said “Sport has the power to change the world, the power to inspire, and the power to unite in a way that little else does”
Sports organisations have a duty to ensure that they are promoting, protecting, and respecting the rights of all those who participate in their activities. This involves ensuring that they create inclusive environments with robust protection measures in place. Sports organisations need to assess, address and report on human rights and equality issues relevant to their operations, setting out policies, plans and actions to better incorporate human rights standards into their work, before reporting on developments and achievements within their respective annual reports.
TRUST Ireland will work with sporting organisations and clubs to better understand the role of human rights in activities. Building more inclusive organisations that promote human rights in and through sport can benefit the organisation. TRUST Ireland is working with National Governing Bodies and Local Sports Partnerships to explain how to fulfil the sport sector's public sector equality and human rights duty.
