The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities recognises that people with disabilities have the right to participate, to the fullest extent possible, in mainstream sporting activities at all levels. It also ensures that people with disabilities have an opportunity to organise, develop and participate in disability-specific sporting and recreational activities.
Those living with disability enjoy sport for health, wellness, leisure, social, and competitive benefits. Building on momentum since Ireland's ratification of the CRPD, TRUST Ireland is working with people with disabilities to support the inclusion of people with disabilities in sport. The following tools and information take a human rights-based approach to participation, empowering people with disabilities to demand their rightful entitlements and fully participate in society, promoting equality and challenging discrimination.
